Discover > Best Of Texas > 5 Texas Destinations For That Tropical Summer Feel (+ Where to Dine!)
Summer is here and I’m so hyped to check out some tropical destinations right here in the Lone Star State. We’re blessed in Texas to have gorgeous weather, meaning you don’t need to travel far to experience gorgeous sun, sea, and sand!
These five Texas destinations will give you the tropical paradise vibe you’re looking for this summer, as well as a myriad of delicious food stops.
Galveston Island
Galveston Island is home to a beautiful coastline, where you can feel the sand between your toes and cool down your feet in the sea after a long day of touristing. This region boasts fabulous seafood, and the historic strand district is super close by. Visiting the beach, you and the family can enjoy carnival rides at the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier. And after a long day enjoying the fresh sea breeze on the island, I highly recommend trying out The Spot. This restaurant features a handcrafted menu with dishes prepared from scratch on the daily.
Son’s Island (Seguin)
Probably one of the least expected places for a tropical oasis is Son’s Island, in Seguin, located right in the heart of Texas Hill Country. With a 4,000-foot perimeter, this island has ample space for plenty of fun water activities. Enjoy a spot of fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and (of course) swimming. There are also private cabanas you can rent that’ll make you feel like you’re holidaying somewhere in the Maldives! If you’re looking for some tasty snacks for your trip to Son’s Island, you can drop by Amy’s & Cathy's Takeout in Seguin and try one of their sandwiches, wraps, salads, and pastries.
Son’s Blue River Camp (Kingsbury)
Like its sister destination, Son’s Island, Son’s Blue River Camp is home to plenty of space for water-based activities. Situated on the San Marcos River in Kingsbury, this location has a wide riverfront that features cute cabins that are great for glamping. There are also two-story cabanas that can entertain bigger groups out for a day of fun. A day at Son’s Blue River Camp is sure to make you hungry! So, why not make your way to San Marcos in the evening and try out CRAFThouse Kitchen & Tap for a number of delicious beer-and-food pairings.
South Padre Island
The resort town of South Padre Island is well known for its beautiful blue waters, which are definitely worth dipping your toes into during the summer months. If you’re out with your family, you can enjoy a spot of dolphin watching before taking a gander at the world’s largest sandcastle. Of course, there’s also the sea, surf and sun to enjoy while breathing in that fresh ocean breeze. A day out at South Padre Island is best capped off with a filling meal at Louie’s Backyard, with their fresh shrimp, steaks, pasta, and lip-smackingly good desserts.
Horseshoe Bay Resort (Horseshoe Bay)
On the banks of Lake Lyndon B. Johnson is the five-star hotel Horseshoe Bay Resort. This premium destination will leave you in awe of the panoramic views of Lake LBJ, while spoiling you with their high-class amenities such as their pool, shops, sports arenas, and lake activities. On your way out of Horseshoe Bay, grab a bite to eat at Johnson City’s revered restaurant, Bryans on 290. This restaurant offers diners a wonderful atmosphere, serving dishes prepared by Chef Bryan Gillenwater over an open fire and with fresh ingredients.
These five Texas destinations are perfect spots for relaxing and adventuring during the summer months. There’s no need to spend a small fortune looking for places to enjoy the sumlmer heat, as the Lone Star State offers an array of destinations that are perfect for those looking for sun, sea, sand, and a satisfying bite to eat.
