Celebrate Local Chefs, Farmers, Ranchers and Artisan Food Makers

Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance (FARFA) and the Council for Healthy Food Systems have announced that they will be holding their first-ever Chefs for Local Farmers feast this coming Thursday, October 20, 2022 at the historic riverside grounds of the UTSA Southwest Campus (formerly the Southwest School of Art), located at 300 Augusta Street.

Distinguished local chefs who are passionate about local and mindfully-grown will be preparing dishes using ingredients grown by Texas’ independent ranchers and farmers and artisan food makers.

What Sort of Food Can be Expected at the Event?

Each chef will be paired with at least one independent family farmer to create small plates that excel at highlighting each chef’s strengths and each farmer’s passion for sustainably grown food, and that look and taste amazing!

If there’s ever a venue where you can get inspired to do your own creations based on local produce then this is the place to be!

When: Thursday, October 20, 2022, 6:30 to 10:30PM

Where: McNutt Gardens, UTSA Southwest Campus, 300 Augusta, San Antonio

Attire: Texas Chic Attire

Participating Local Farms, Ranches, and Food Producers from Texas

The products from these local food businesses are already amazing on their own, but when you get a chef to create small plates from them, then the possibilities are endless!

Since 2006, Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance has successfully led campaigns for national, state and local policies that support the success of independent farms and local food producers. As a non-profit organization, FARFA focuses on changing burdensome laws that hinder the ability of small-scale, sustainable producers to provide products to consumers at fair market prices.

Its sister non-profit, the Council for Healthy Food Systems, provides educational programs for farmers, consumers, elected officials and media. Its focus is on identifying and spreading the word about the systemic changes needed to establish healthy food systems ... from the soil to the eater.

Executive Director of both organizations, Judith McGeary, is known for successes that include allowing the sale of raw milk to Texas consumers and allowing the creation of thousands of "cottage foods” businesses that can sell specific products made in home kitchens.
