Kerrville’s First-Ever Winery at The Hill Top

Texas’ wine industry continuously grows. As a matter of fact, Texas Hill Country is one of the largest wine-producing areas within the state — and we deem it just right to send our appreciation to Kerrville Hills Winery. It is the city’s first winery, conveniently nestled at the top of a hill high above Kerrville and the Guadalupe River Valley!

Kerrville Hills Winery always looks forward to breaking down the high society cloak that surrounds the wine industry. All they want is for people to enjoy wine, see reality, and have fun in the winemaking process.

They enjoy guiding and consulting upcoming, small production wineries and wine enthusiasts, providing easy to follow wine education classes, and a place for families and friends to hang out while enjoying great wine and the hilltop view of the Texas Hill Country.

The Transition

Kerrville Hills Winery was established in 2008 as a retirement dream of Carol and Wayne Milberger. They sold the winery in 2019 to renowned Texas winemaker and consultant John Rivenburgh.

The Transition

Now-owner and winemaker, John Rivenburgh, is known for his passion for bringing the highest quality, handcrafted wines of notoriety throughout the great state of Texas. Currently, John is fulfilling his dream of creating a wine co-op, a communal space for those seeking to understand the art of sustainable winemaking.

Since its inception, Kerrville Hills Winery has always been a favorite for travelers from all over the world and residents alike — and it plans to just stay at that!

The Early Challenges

Aside from the current struggles of limited operations due to state mandates, Kerrville Hills has diligently worked to become known in Kerrville and Hill Country communities particularly by increasing their social media and outreach presence. Kerrville Hills is a family-run business approaching wines from an everyday perspective with high quality in mind and the best possible experience.

The Early Challenges

Kerrville Hills Winery Products

John Rivenburgh is known as the Johnny Appleseed of Tannat. After having tasted the varietal in California, he knew this was the wine Texas needed. John has made over 100 Tannat wines over his career and it just gets better every year!

Kerrville Hills Winery Products

Kerrville Hills Winery offers 100% Texas wines, in which a majority of their fruit comes from the Texas Hill Country and the Texas High Plains. Their best-selling summer wine is the “Aire y Sol” 2018 Viognier — light, crisp, and perfect for a hot Texas summer.

Insider Tip: You need to keep an eye out for their most amazing Rivenburgh Wine 2016 Sagrantino Reserve they have just bottled! It is full-bodied, complex, and silky smooth. There are only 50 cases, and they will be releasing this wine late fall of 2020.
