Robotic Food Delivery Arrive in Austin

The latest innovation in food delivery is rolling into the streets of Austin, as part of a pilot program from the startup company Coco. Coco recently garnered $56 million in funding, allowing for service expansion into Austin, Dallas, Houston, and Miami.

Coco, which debuted its remote delivery service amid the height of the COVID crisis in mid-2020, aims to reduce consumer costs while delivering food 30% faster than other traditional methods, boasting an on-time delivery rate of 97%.

The company’s specialized delivery robots are remotely operated with the help of human assistants, who pilot the devices to the doorsteps of hungry customers. As part of their official Austin kickoff, Coco is partnering with ten local venues including Arpeggio Grill, Bamboo Bistro, Aviator Pizza and Tuk Tuk Thai. The delivery robots are planned to serve customers in the areas of South Lamar, South Congress, North Loop, South Austin, Domain, and the general downtown district.

Roland Pena, Senior Vice President of Global Tech for the Austin Chamber of Commerce, commented on the upcoming Austin expansion, stating:

“We’re excited that Coco is launching their first ever expansion outside of California and bringing their innovative technology to Austin. Coco was founded on the same entrepreneurial spirit that Austin has been embracing for decades.”

Roland goes on to conclude:

“Their dedication to a streamlined service that simultaneously reduces costs, increases consistency and helps our businesses connect with customers in a sustainable way fits into the Austin region’s identity of ingenuity, customer success and business profitability.”
