Bringing Imagination and Innovation to The Local Food System

Spearheaded by Trisha Sutton, Urban American Farmer has one simple mission: bringing “imagination and innovation to the local food system, by engaging both farmers and chefs in an open conversation about the future of flavor.”

UAF seeks to engage Austinites in conversations about flavor, hosting workshops that aim to educate the community on urban gardening and sustainability. Cops harvested from these workshops are used in local restaurants and bar menus, as well as special educational dinners that focus on community building and sourcing innovation.

Founder Trisha Sutton launched Urban American Farmer in 2017, inspired by a lifetime blending conventional agriculture with subsistence farming. Sutton views food as a valuable opportunity for connecting people together, launching her company with the goal of bringing consumers and food producers together.

Urban American Farmer operates an online store, offering everything from local producer directories and totes made from recycled cotton to self-watering garden boxes. Aspiring agriculturists can also benefit from UAF’s garden consultation video chat – a 30-minute personalized session covering topics such as sun exposure, soil types, tools, garden size, seed sourcing, organic farming practices, and more.
