Interesting stories from other sites this week include a MASSIVE gourmet grocery in Texas, but hey, everything comes in one delicious size in Texas right? We’re also sharing an article that dives into game meat that explains that they’re not… well… gamey. There’s also a Youtube video that gasp sacrilage, cooks steaks well done! These and other interesting stories ahead!

Gourmet Grocer that Takes a Whole Day to Explore

There’s something really therapeutic about walking down the aisles of a grocery store. While they’re not as fun or interactive as a farmers market, Phoenicia specialty foods still has an appeal of its own. Forget name brand food from America’s top brands, expect to find a whole new world of GOURMET food that’s spread out in about 30,000 square feet of shopping space with food packed in every corner! From fresh food, unique ingredients, to even ready-to-eat food! If you love the concept that Eataly has with Italian food, then this place is worth a visit at least once!

The Myth of “Game” Meat Taste

Admittedly, I’ve been guilty of this before. Whenever I hear “game” meat, I would immediately think of off-taste and strong tastes. It wasn’t till i tried bison meat and other game meat that was properly butchered that I discovered that they’re not exactly as pungent or gamey as people put them out to be. It might be the image of the mighty bison itself that lead people to think that bison meat may be a little bit too strong but that’s actually not the case. Unlike venison or even lamb, which need astringent (think mint) type sauces to go with them, bison meat is actually quite mild and palatable. Think more of a leaner cut of beef that has a subtle earthiness! So the next time you see bison on the menu, don’t forget to try it out! You won’t regret it!

Well Done Steak with Ketchup Sauce Spaghetti

So… Yeah… The title says it all… Well Done Steak with Ketchup Sauce Spaghetti. Now this video is by a well-known Youtube channel that features Cantonese Cuisine. Now I’m a big fan of authentic Chinese food, but this is a new one in my book. I mean, so many things that are wrong in one picture. There’s well done steak. There’s corn. There’s broccoli. There’s spaghetti, all in one hotplate. Strange? Yes. Tasty? Probably. An affront to the gods of steak? Surely.

Cooking at the End of The World

Atlas Obscura has always been my go to for strange news around the world and this time they really hit home with their feature on a cookbook for surviving the end of the world! With outrageous recipes and techniques, it’s not really a “real” cookbook, but it’s good for a lazy afternoon if you’re looking for a chuckle or two.

They go through the book and highlight the best parts and if you’re into this kind of thing, it’s definitely worth a couple of minutes to check out their overview.

A No-Holds-Barred Restaurant Review

When influencers and a whole generation of “foodies” constantly rave about a place, you know that there must be something up with a restaurant. Now, for me, I would usually take instagrammable food with a grain of salt because I’ve been burned so many times going to a place that’s recommended by an “influencer” and has amazing pictures on social media. This is the case with a VERY popular hand roll bar in Seattle.

I won’t post excerpts of the review here because this is something that you’ll definitely want to read in its original format.
