“Healthy” Cereals, Ranked from Worst to Best (Subjective)

Someone from The Takeout has apparently sampled a bunch of “healthy” breakfast cereals and has ranked them from the worst to the best. The descriptions are spot on and are quite humorous, but what really kills me is the comments section! It’s just pure gold!

Now if you like cereal as much as the next person then be sure to check out the article. But for me, a real breakfast is something a lot more substantial than cereal, but that’s just me. I mean, really, “healthy” cereals or a nice big plate of bacon, eggs, and maybe some hash browns to go with it?

You’re Not Cooking Your Bacon Wrong, but it Could Be Better

Bon Appetit spoke with Joe’s Bakery in Austin and they’ve discovered a better way to cook bacon! Notice why we didn’t say right way? That’s because there’s no wrong way to cook bacon! Bacon is bacon and we just love it no matter how it’s cooked. But if we can get whole strips of perfectly cooked bacon then why not right?

Joe’s Bakery shares their secret to ultra-crispy bacon that’s perfectly cooked so if you love bacon, it’s worth checking the article out. As for me, I’m trying it out tomorrow morning!

Charred, Crunchy, Spicy Pasta. Impossible? No.

Stanley Tucci in one of the episodes of Searching for Italy explores Spaghetti all'assassina, or assassin's pasta. Suffice to say, this pasta has been around since the 70s and has gained quite a following. Cooked directly in oil and aromatics, this way of cooking pasta has fundamentally changed the way I think about the way I cook my pasta. I mean, you can’t have an Italian mom screaming at you for “incorrectly” cooking your pasta if this dish wash invented in Bari, Italy right?

They even included a recipe in the post so if you want to try making the dish yourself then you can give it a go. It’s definitely worth a try.

Italy’s No. 1 Brand of Pasta Isn’t Made in Italy?

Another one for the books! Last week, we reported that Texas Pete got into trouble because it wasn’t made in Texas. This week, Barilla (which coincidentally is a brand I really like, and assumed was from Italy) has been slapped with a class action lawsuit because it actually isn’t an Italian brand! It’s actually based out of Illinois!

In the original compaint, the complainants stated that the reason why they went for the brand was because of the belief it was made in Italy. I mean, who wouldn’t think it right? All of their packaging and branding is based upon the projection that the company is truly Italian!

A Sad Dietary Change for Many a Brit

As per the Daily Mail, many British families are now turning towards lower cost food to navigate the cost of living crisis. Sales of tinned food are on the rise with sales of Spam are reported to be 34% higher. Good stuff like olive oil are also being replaced with cheaper vegetable oils. Even fish heads and beef shin, parts that would take a really delicate hand to prepare properly has also increased over 30%.

Other signs of the times include the higher sales of pressure cookers and slow cookers, which means that more and more tough cuts are being sold.

Not all is doom and gloom though. Britons are now also more aware of food waste, meaning buying just enough food and making sure that nothing goes to waste.
