4 Breweries with Awesome Brews and Tap Rooms

Waking up to a New Year I try to brush off some New Year’s Resolutions under the rug. This is normal for me because I’m pretty hyped about how I’m going to frequent Texas craft breweries this year because of work and, during my off-hours, I get to enjoy the pleasure that is craft beer! My areas of assignments are a win-win for me since I get to frequent my favorite craft breweries and put in some work out there on a weekly basis.

Admittedly, I’m a beer hound myself and I’ve gone through different craft breweries in the Lone Star State during my younger years. And I have also sampled beers from all over the world because of friends who frequently travel abroad. But, out of all the brews I’ve tried, Texas craft breweries have a special place in my heart. Here are the 4 craft breweries with awesome brews and great taprooms that you should definitely visit whenever you’re in the area.

Legal Draft Beer Co.

Consistency is key when it comes to craft brews and the Legal Draft Beer Co. embodies this and more. By sourcing the finest ingredients and using state-of-the-art methods of brewing, this craft brewery offers a catalog of craft beers that is full of flavor and character. To enjoy their beers, they have their own taproom and have both outdoor and indoor areas where you can enjoy your brews with family and friends. My go-to beer from this craft brewery is their Hazea Corpus India Pale Ale. The aroma of this brew has hints of tropical fruits that mingle with butter, spice, and earthy scents. This aroma is followed in parallel with the taste and finishes with a crisp grapefruit rind on the tongue.

Division Brewing

Owned by Wade Wadlington, his wife Tami, and Sean Cooley, Division Brewing hails from the collective passions of these three people and from their humble beginnings as craft brewers. For me, this is what craft brewing is all about that’s outside of the big-corpo mindset and starts with the simple love for enjoying brews that are distinctly unique and can’t be found anywhere else. From its humble beginnings, the three founders of Division Brewing have built up the brewery into offering beer hounds hand-crafted unique flavor combinations that range between light ales, hoppy India Pale Ales, blondes, and wheat. My go-to brew from Division Brewing is their Dark Cordial Cush that comes in at a moderately strong 8% ABV. This brew gives off roasted flavors that are followed by dark cherries, coconuts, vanilla beans, and dark cocoa beans. A guaranteed go-to for dark beer lovers out there.

Live Oak Brewing Co.

Live Oak Brewing Co. is one of the few breweries that use the old-world style of brewing and because of this, they are considered to be one of the 10 Must-Try Craft Breweries in Austin. They use a time-consuming process in brewing their craft beers that have given them one of the finest selection of brews that I’ve seen in Texas. They have a pet-friendly and kid-friendly taproom that is great for spending time with family and friends over glasses of brews. My favorite from this state-renowned craft brewery is their Live Oak Pilz which utilizes an heirloom variety of Moravian malt. This 4.7% ABV clean, crisp pilsner has a complex malt flavor and finishes with spicy hop bitterness and aroma.

Rahr & Sons Brewing Co.

Opened back in 2004, Rahr & Son Brewing Co. hails from a family of American-German brewers dating back to 1847. Walking into the brewery, you shouldn’t be surprised by the long line of people lining up to get their pints. Once you have your beer in hand, you can definitely find your own spot at their expansive brewery and taproom where there are occasional bands and food trucks that greatly complements your planned night of enjoying brews. The beer that stood out for me from the Rahr & Sons Brewing Co. is their paleta de mange. This brew is easy and pleasing on the palate that blends tropical flavors of ripe mango, Mexican pequin chiles, and fresh lime. A truly refreshing brew.
