‘Tis the Season for Grass-fed Steak? TexasRealFood Panhandle Edition!

Discover > Farm to Table Eating in Texas > ‘Tis the Season for Grass-fed Steak? TexasRealFood Panhandle Edition!

With the holidays right round the corner, many of us have already chalked out dinner plans and menus.

At least in our heads.

And if yours is a family like ours, of meat lovers and tree huggers (yes, we can be both!) you are probably already looking out for healthier, sustainable ways to consume holiday proteins.

I’m quite confident grass-fed beef has crossed your mind!

Grass-fed and grass-finished beef is one of the cleaner, leaner, more nutritionally dense protein options today. It also ranks lower on the environmental strain caused due to cattle rearing. To make the most of our collaboration with the American Grassfed Association, we thought we’d make sourcing grass-fed beef easier for you. Here are some of the best places in the Panhandle area of Texas to get your grass-fed holiday beef from!

Texas Beef Grass to Grill, Shamrock

The Cadra family settled in Wheeler County over a century ago and have raised cows for five generations. Their farm, Texas Beef Grass to Grill, provides IMI Global certified grass-fed and grass-finished beef anywhere in Texas and surrounding states!

Their cattle are not administered antibiotics or growth stimulants, and their cattle are raised at their own, natural pace. So no matter where you are in the state, you can get freshly harvested beef in eighths, quarters, halves, and even a whole cow cut to specification. Visit this link to book your holiday meat with Texas Beef Grass to Grill.

Talltex Beef, Dalhart

Talltex Beef is a work-in-progress holistic farm and ranch located in Dalhart. They have been raising grass-fed cattle on their no-tilled lands for over a decade. Six years ago, they replaced bulls with Wagyu/Akushi, keeping with the “Tender and Good for the Heart'' theme. The challenge for them is to begin Adaptive Grazing, which will have them rerouting water tanks. They have added Rambouillet sheep and have tasty lamb to offer as well. Support their efforts by buying direct! You can find them on their Facebook page here.

Paidom Meats, Nazareth

East of Nazareth, a small village about midway between Amarillo and Lubbock, is Paidom Meats. Owners Heather & Alan Birkenfeld have been pioneers in grass-fed beef since 1994, raising animals on pasture, without grain, without any drugs or growth stimulants. All meats on offer come from animals raised on the farm, and are, therefore, source-verified. Relying on what the sun (Pai) and land (Dom) provide, Paidom Meats offers beef, lamb, goat, chicken, pork, & bison. Their pasture-grown livestock yields meat that is rich in vitamins and minerals, Omega 3 fatty acids, and conjugated linoleic acids (CLA’s). To order, you have to send out an email to carnivore@paidom.com. Also, follow Paidom Meats on Facebook, here.

Buck Creek Land and Cattle, Paducah

The Buck Creek Land and Cattle is a third-generation farm that has always practiced sustainable methods. Mona and Richard Gregory manage this farm that has been in their family since the 1930s. Their animals are raised the way nature intended - cattle and lamb never get grain, chickens run free to scratch for seeds and bugs while eating all the plants they want, and pigs thrive in the dirt and mud as they range their pasture.

Buck Creek Land and Cattle offer Heritage European Beef cattle: Angus, Galloway, and Shorthorn, wild boar, lamb, chicken, and eggs. They also deliver and ship subscription boxes across Texas! If you want to order some of their sumptuous meat, check them out at McKinney Chestnut Square Farmers Market

Venhaus Farms/ MV Produce, Happy

MV Produce offers meats, fruits, and vegetables grown, raised, and harvested at Venhaus Farms in Happy, TX.  This farm assures that the cattle they sell are sustainably raised, grass-fed, grass-finished, and are hormone and antibiotic-free.  The produce they offer is top-quality and, assuredly, 100% herbicide and pesticide-free!  So, MV Produce is your place if you want natural, local, organic produce or grass-fed beef! Let the holidays be the perfect opportunity for you and your loved ones to make the switch towards environmentally friendly nutrition and lifestyle choices!
