  1. Rose City Farmer’s Market

Whenever I’m at Tyler, Texas, I make it a point to visit the quaint but special Rose City Farmer’s Market. This place offers different goods every week and, if you’re lucky, there’s always good music to listen to while you shop for produce that is sourced locally to support small-time farmers. If you get the chance to drop by, try to visit Chelo’s Handmade Tortillas for their amazing Gorditas de Trigo which went really well with my morning cup of espresso.

What better way to spend a golden Sunday afternoon with family this fall than at the Angelina County Farmer’s Market at Lufkin, Texas. There are different pavilions that offer all kinds of organically grown vegetables, sugar-free pastries for kids, and even toys that every toddler would surely love. Out of all the random collection of things at the market, what I loved best was the wild honey and the homemade preserves that tastes like heaven on my morning toast. And also, don’t forget to bring your pet dog since the market is open to shoppers who like to bring along their furry family members with them while out shopping.

5. Georgias Farmer’s Market

Georgias Farmers Market at Plano, Texas, is a farmer’s market that offers a wide variety of home-grown produce and some fruits that I’ve seen for the first time (like those pink pineapples). During my visit to this market, the highlight, for me, was the fresh quality organically grown fruits that were sourced from local farms around the area. The market also offers an impressive aisle of preserves that made my jaw drop. The sheer variety of products at Georgias Farmers Market coupled with the guaranteed freshness of the fruits and vegetables makes my visits to Plano, Texas always worth it.

The small-town charms of Athens, Texas are represented quite well at the Athens Farmer’s Market. Local farmers gather from all across town to sell their locally-grown organic fruits and vegetables. When I was there, I got excited with their bargain prices for 20-dollar bushels of freshly-picked apples from Wagner’s Fruit Farm that my wife used for her apple pie recipe and our apple preserves that I really look forward to whenever we have our breakfasts.

7. Palestine Farmer’s Market

If you’re into that homey kind of country vibe when perusing for organically-grown local produce in Palestine, Texas, then Palestine Farmer’s Market is for you. Coming into the market you’ll be greeted by the delectable aroma of grilled meats from the food trucks that are parked on the market grounds. Of course, I couldn’t help but drop by and grab a snack or two or three before I started my rounds. I was hoping to cook shrimp (What wine goes well with shrimp?) gambas for the coming days and Palestine Farmer’s Market did not disappoint. I got my shrimp from Gulf Shrimp where the vendor was aptly called the ‘Shrimp Guy’ by the locals. The farmers in the market were also great people and getting to know them felt like I was with familiar people even though I just happened to drop by for my quest for next Wednesday’s Gambas.
