Witch Finger Cookies

Nothing quite says Halloween like a platter of Witch Finger Cookies. These spooky snacks are easy to make and are always a hit with party guests. The key to making them look genuinely creepy is in the presentation.

Be sure to roll out long, thin cookie dough for the fingers, and don't be afraid to get creative with the "nails" using almond nuts (how long do nuts last?). Bejeweled rings or fake blood can add an extra touch of horror. Of course, these tasty fingers will surely vanish quickly, so make plenty. After all, no one wants to end up being a fingerless witch!

Impress your family and friends by purchasing your almonds (how long do almonds last?) at Austinuts! They specialize in processing fresh nuts into "dry roasted" gourmet nuts using a centuries-old roasting method common around the Mediterranean to dry roast its product.

Ingredients

Procedures

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and powdered sugar until fluffy. Add the egg and almond extract and mix.

  2. When well combined, gradually add sifted flour and salt.

  3. When thoroughly combined, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 40 minutes or up to 2 days.

  4. Preheat your oven to 325°F and line a baking sheet with paper.

  5. Take about a third of the dough out of the fridge and begin rolling out the fingers. Add an almond to the tip of the fingernail, and press down to make sure it's secure.

  6. Form a knuckle by squeezing around the middle.

  7. Use a sharp knife for the wrinkles in the knuckles and vary the length. That'll create a more realistic finger.

  8. It is recommended to bake one test finger to make sure all the fingers come out the way you want them to. Testing ensures that you don't spend all your time rolling out all the cookies only to discover that you should have made them differently.

  9. Once you're happy with your test fingers, continue rolling out the rest of the dough.

  10. Place fingers on the prepared cookie sheet, leaving about a centimeter between them.

  11. Bake for 17 - 22 minutes or until slightly golden.

  12. Let the cookies cool on the sheet, and then remove the almonds from the cookies. Add some jam in the cavities and then put the almonds back, making sure you used enough jam for them to ooze a little. Also, add some jam around the knuckles for extra nastiness! You can use the remaining jam as "dip."

  13. Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

Ingredients

  • 2 large egg whites

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract

  • ½ cup melted dark chocolate

  • Black food marker

Procedure

  1. Preheat the oven to 275 °F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silpat mat.

  3. Add the vanilla extract and mix at medium-high speed until stiff peaks have formed.

  4. Transfer the meringue to a piping bag.

  5. Begin making mounds by holding the bag perpendicular to the lined baking sheet. Press gently, using even pressure, and pipe no more than a 1-inch mound - about the size of a Hershey kiss.

  6. Bake for 1 hour, then turn off the oven and let the meringues cool to room temperature, about 1 hour, inside the oven with the door closed.

  7. Take the meringues out and dip the bottom into melted chocolate.

  8. Add two small dots to the meringues using the black food marker to resemble eyes.

  9. Transfer the ghosts to an airtight container and store them at room temperature for up to 3 days.

Ingredients

  • 6 Hot dogs

  • 1 package frozen puff pastry dough

Procedure

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

  2. Slightly defrost your frozen puff pastry dough and unroll the dough. Please press on the perforations to seal them together.

  3. Cut the dough into 1/4-inch strips.

  4. Wrap the pieces of dough around each hot dog, creating bandages by stretching the dough slightly and letting it overlap and criss-cross. You don't completely cover the hot dog; leave gaps, so it looks like a mummy peeking out from its bandages.

  5. Place each wrapped hot dog on a baking sheet and then bake for 10-12 minutes or until the dough is golden brown and hot dogs are warmed through.

  6. Remove from the oven and place a small dot of ketchup or mustard on the back of your candy eyes and add 2 to each mummy dog.

Eyeball Punch

Halloween is a time for parties, and no party is complete without a festive punch. This Halloween punch is deliciously fruity without any added sweetener or artificial ingredients, making it a healthier option than many other Halloween drinks.

It's so creepy and natural; you just need lychees and blueberries (how long do blueberries last?)!

This recipe is best made with 100% real fruit juice. Juice Fruits LLC in Houston, TX promises to always hand-pick only the best fruits and vegetables when buying from farms or markets.

Ingredients

Punch:

  • 4 cups 100% pineapple juice

  • 4 cups 100% blood orange juice

  • 3 cups 100% apple juice

  • 1/3 cup 100% lime juice

Eyeballs:

Procedure

  1. Prepare the eyeballs. Place a blueberry in the middle of each lychee. You may place two on a skewer to make a set of eyes.

  2. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve or use as ice cubes (highly recommended).

  3. To do that, lay the assembled eyeballs in a single layer on a tray and freeze for about 1-2 hours or until frozen. Please keep them in a freezer-proof container until ready to serve.

  4. It's best to freeze the juice bottles in the freezer for a few hours before serving. Shortly before serving, mix all the punch ingredients. Keep chilled until ready to serve.
