There Is A Woman In Every Color: Black Women In Art

There Is a Woman in Every Color: Black Women in Art aims to confront the long history of marginalization and make the presence of Black women in American art visible. The show will feature works from over forty prominent 20th-century and 21st-century African American artists, including Emma Amos, Elizabeth Catlett, and Alma Thomas, to name a few. In addition, 19th-century works by established painters and sculptors such as Harriet Hosmer, Edmonia Lewis, and Meta Vaux Warrick Fuller will also be on display. 

Each piece highlights the resilience of Black women throughout history and gives insight into their experiences of facing physical and psychological discrimination both during and after slavery. No matter how difficult the odds may have been, There Is a Woman in Every Color strives to honor their survival and legacy.
