Looking for delivery in Houston? While COVID-19 and 'Stay Home' orders do their rounds, it's become easier and more practical to self-isolate. Waiting it out, however, comes with its own set of challenges - such as being deprived of our favorite restaurant meals and grocery items. Thankfully there are a number of vendors practicing safety precautions while delivering our fresh favorites to our door. Here are 7 of our favorite local restaurants and 2 local stores that are delivering during the 'Stay Home' order.
Dish Society
Dish Society has gone above and beyond with their online ordering facilities. Orders can be placed online, directly on their website, for delivery or pickup. In addition to restaurant menu items, they have an online 'Virtual Farmers Market' where we can shop for groceries and household items. Talk about a farm-to-table restaurant that cares! Most of the favorites on the menu are available for delivery: sandwiches, mains, snacks, salads, sides, soups, breakfast (all day), wine, and other beverages.
In the Virtual Farmers Market area, they have items like eggs, milk, meats, fruit, breads, tortillas, and produce boxes containing about a week’s worth of produce. They also have toilet paper, which makes it convenient. Most of the fresh produce items from the Virtual Farmers Market include information about where they are sourced. Delivery hours: Monday – Saturday 8:15 am – 9 pm and Sunday 9:15 am – 8 pm.
Local Foods (Business Closed)
A firm favorite due to the freshness of the food -prepared caringly with local ingredients, Local Foods is open for delivery and takeout at several of their locations. The delivery is free for orders over $50, available through DoorDash. They’re also running a promotion where you get bonus credits if you purchase gift cards, which are added to your account within 2 hours.
Menu options include starters, soups, salads, sandwiches, drinks, desserts, deli items by the pound, and pre-made meals by Benjy’s. The deli items include things like asparagus, beef, cheeses, salmon filets, pork, shrimp and chicken. Their local sources are listed on the website. You’ll be redirected to DoorDash from their website to place your order. Delivery hours: Monday – Sunday 10 am – 8 pm.
Velvet Taco
Velvet Taco is open for delivery and pickup and is currently running special promotions and giveaways. Details and updates about these programs can be found on their website. Orders for delivery and pickup can also be placed on the website or through the Velvet Taco app. They’ve got tacos - with all the various proteins and toppings, chicken and waffle tacos, queso, ‘Crisp Tots,’ non-alcoholic beverages – and don’t forget their famous margaritas!
Delivery hours are changing according to the needs of customers specific to each restaurant, but they seem to fall mostly between 11 am - 9:45 pm.
Flip ‘n Patties
If you’re looking for a well-portioned, Filipino inspired meal that’s reasonably priced then Flip ‘n Patties is a must. The menu is tailored to represent Filipino street food made with fresh ingredients. Delivery can be ordered online. On the menu, you'll find dishes like pulutan, Akaushi burgers, garlic rice plates, manoks, sanwits and much more. The delivery option is free of charge to the whole of Houston however, the order must be at least $30 to qualify for delivery. Delivery operates until 8:30 pm daily.

Kata Robata
If you’re in the mood for sushi (What wine goes well with sushi?), Kata Robata is offering free deliveries for orders over $125 within a 5-mile radius of the restaurant (3600 Kirby Suite H). They basically have the full menu available, with a few exceptions. There's starters, robata, noodles, sushi, desserts, vegetarian options, and more.
From their website, you'll be directed to the Toast website where you can view the menu and take down your order. It's currently only possible to select the pickup option on the Toast website but if the meal qualifies for delivery you can call them on +1 713-526-8858 to schedule it. They're currently operating 11:30 am - 9 pm daily.
White Oak Kitchen + Drinks
White Oak serves specialty dishes and traditional favorites with a fresh twist, and a range of meals that accommodate different diets. They have gluten-free, vegetarian and low carb options. All their meals are created with local, fresh ingredients. You can order online and delivery is free via DoorDash.
They’re serving breakfast, brunch, lunch, late lunch, and dinner. There are interesting items on the menu such as pre/post-workout meals. Their catering menu, which consists of meals that serve up to 8 people, is available all day. The delivery times are from 6:30 am to 9:30 pm daily.
Brennan’s of Houston
When the Creole cuisine craving hits, Brennan’s of Houston never disappoints. They're providing delivery or pickup through UberEats. You’ll be directed to UberEats from their website. They focus on using locally-sourced, fresh ingredients in all their award-winning meals. Fish, crawfish, crab (What wine goes well with crab?), smoked beef rib, and cheesecake are amongst their many original masterpieces available to order. Delivery is 3 pm – 7 pm daily.
The Heights Grocer
The Heights Grocer provides same-day delivery throughout Houston. They have an online shop that sells wines, candles, pastas, a range of dairy products, cooking oils, chicken, vegan products, and pâtés. The wine selection includes good-quality wines, which are produced in Texas, and affordable.
There are also interesting things such as 'Survival Kits' on offer which range in price and contain products like almonds (how long do almonds last?), crackers, and cheeses. Deliveries are shipped to you but can also be picked up if you prefer. Just select the appropriate option before completing the checkout. Orders can be placed via the website 24 hours a day.
Herbert’s Specialty Meats
Herbert’s Specialty Meats is a meat market that arranges delivery to your door. You can order directly on their website, where they also have instructions for cooking the different types and cuts of meat. The online shop listings include beef, sausage, pies, chickens, turkey, kabobs, pork, sauces, specials and more. There's a large variety of products on offer in each category. All purchases are vacuum sealed, frozen and shipped to your door via UPS. Packages are insulated thoroughly in coolers and corrugated boxes filled with dry or gel ice. You can order on the website any time of day.
