Houston, Texas: A Craft Beer Heaven? (Pt 2)

The sheer number of pubs, taprooms, and breweries in Houston makes the city a mecca for everything craft beer. As a result, we at TexasRealFood have taken it upon ourselves to present you with EVEN more stops to add to your Houston beer tour.

If you’re planning a trip to Houston or are a long-time Houstonian looking for good times paired with great brews, here are seven breweries you need to visit.

Under the Radar Brewery

Under the Radar Brewery first started as a homebrewing operation run by its three founders. With their collective efforts, what started out as a hobby soon turned into a full-scale business. Their taproom is rather low-key – in other words, it doesn’t have a sign on it! However, this is because they wish to stick to their roots and keep things down-to-earth. This brewery has five brews on tap, with other seasonal beers popping up throughout the year. Fancy bringing along your pooch? This venue is dog-friendly, so go ahead!

Platypus Brewing

Platypus Brewing brings together the flavors of Australian cuisine with their famous brews. This concept was thought up by the brewery’s five beer-loving founders. Their taproom serves up delicious fare alongside freshly pulled pints from the tap. Only got time for one pint? I suggest you go for their Gold Coast IPA, a brew with citrus tones and a dry-hop finish.

Saint Arnold Brewing Company

World-class beers are what Saint Arnold Brewing Company is all about. Visiting this brewery means getting to treat yourself to one (or many!) of their ten beers that are available all year round. My favorite is their Saint Arnold Double Down – this beer is made using a mix of two IPA brewing methods, resulting in a delicious unique hoppy IPA. And at 9.2% ABV, this brew packs quite the punch!

This is especially true on weekends, when they host huge crowds in their biergarten. Soon you will also be able to join Karbach Brewing Co’s brewery tour, which is coming back in Fall 2022.

Fulbrook Ale Works

Fullbrook Ale Works was founded by Jeffrey Hajovsky, Jeremy Hajovsky, Patrick Ivey and Jeremiah Ivey. Their aim? To brew delicious small-batch beer. Producing their beer in smaller batches ensures that brewmaster Jeffrey can easily monitor the quality of their booze. And that’s why visiting this Richmond-based brewery is worth the drive out of Houston. Open seven days a week, Fullbrook Ale Works boasts ample space to accommodate large groups. Apart from beer, they also offer seltzers, ciders and wines, all of which pair beautifully with dishes from the food truck parked on the brewery’s grounds.

Known for bringing novel brews to its customers, Southern Yankee Beer Company is a family-owned brewery with a true sense of fun. Offering both seasonal and regular brews, this brewing company sells five beers that are available throughout the year and a rotating selection of craft beers.
