When I first visited Cooke County, I was there on business – and to be honest, I wasn’t really much of a wine drinker back then! But lo and behold, I was taken on a couple of fabulous wine tastings and things started to change. So much so that upon returning to the County at a later date, I decided to make my way to a few more vineyards.

Walking in, their staff are always eager to educate visitors about the wine scene in the Valley View area, giving delightful insights into how Firelight Vineyards has grown to be what it is today. If you’re looking for great food-to-wine pairings, then look no further. This winery offers gluten-free food items from their bistro menu. Nibble on some savory snacks while enjoying a bottle of their sweet Roman Candle that is delightfully light on the palette.

This exotic game farm and winery is only open to private guests, making it a truly exclusive retreat. Fancy treating yourself or a loved one? Their 2010 Big Red Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon boasts a rich complexity of flavors, developed as a result of being stored in oak barrels for 39 months. At $90 a bottle, this ruby-red wine showcases dark fruity aromas, with lingering scents of smoky toffee, plums, and blackcurrant.

When I was there, I fell in love with their Chocolate Portejas, a gorgeous dessert wine. This tipple has a decadent chocolatey profile with a moderate kick to warm you up on a cold night.
