Texan Chocolates Worth the Splurge

It’s the month of all things cute and mush! Even though Valentine’s has come and gone, it’s never too late to indulge in some hand-made chocolate (What wine goes well with chocolate?) from an artisan chocolatier right here in Texas.

Cacao has a hard time growing in Texas, but that doesn’t mean we don’t make some sweet local chocolate here in the Lone Star State! Fairtrade cocoa beans are sourced by these local chocolatiers from the best farms around the world and are hand-made into some of the finest chocolate treats Texas has to offer.

Cacao & Cardamom Chocolatier

A gourmet chocolate shop specializing in deliciously sweet creations, Cacao & Cardamom is truly a treat. Their confectionery is made from a premium couverture chocolate base infused with spices and exotic fruit. The brand is focused on experimenting with all things chocolate, using innovative preparation techniques and offering unique flavor pairings. The ingredients are freshly sourced and whipped into intricate recipes with a touch of a finesse. The shop’s Valentine’s specials include their beautiful, heart-shaped boxes featuring their best-selling flavors.

This shop pushes the boundaries of chocolate making with its intriguing and unconventional flavors. Their rosebud fudge, for instance, is made with rose petals and a type of sour cherry pit. Chef Katherine Clapner has curated a variety of specials for Valentine’s Day, featuring spiced cinnamon bars, giant truffle-filled hearts, chocolate sauces or “love potions”, and a have-it-all gift bucket. Other specialty treats include nutty chocolate barks, candied nuts (how long do nuts last?), drinking chocolate, truffles (What wine goes well with truffles?), and fudges, among other delicious treats.

MB Chocolatier

A regular at the Pecan Grove Farmers Market, MB Chocolatier offers gourmet chocolate crafted with passion and expertise. Chef-owner Marla was bitten by the chocolate bug when she tasted a box of fine Ecuadorian chocolates. This inspired her to enroll at a professional school of chocolate arts and pursue chocolate artistry as a career. Soon, her efforts came to fruition with MB Chocolatier, a business selling artisanal confectionery developed for the American palate. Marla’s repertoire is extensive— from bonbons, chocolate cherries (how long do cherries last?)and hot chocolate bombs to artisanal bars and pops, she does it all! You can build your own selection to customize your chocolate experience or opt for a pre-designed assortment for a surprise with every bite.
