What is Farm-to-Table?

The Problem With Our Food

Some people don’t have enough food, while others are eating too much. There’s only one way to fix this problem—and it starts with you and me. Industrial agriculture has lead us down a destructive path.  We are trying to produce enough food to adequately feed the overgrowing population. And it's just not nutritious enough. It's all becoming "fast food" because, in America especially, we're always on the go. We work and spend less time at home,  and don't know how to meal plan or don't have the time.  Before you know it - life is passing us by and we are feeling pain in our bodies from a lack of attention! This is the problem many people face. And education, commitment and time are the most important factors. We try to source the best information for you, here at TexasRealFood. And present it in a knowledgeable, quick and easy way to read.  You can search our resources and learn about your food  - check out TRF's Guide to Labels. So you can ask yourself "What's for dinner?". And find out in one spot, gaining a little knowledge along the way.

The Future of Sustainable Food

Texas Local Food Business Spotlight

The Future of Sustainable Food

Food Tank is for the 7 billion people who have to eat every day. Food Tank is for farmers and producers, policy makers and government leaders, researchers and scientists, academics and journalists, and the funding and donor communities. We all can collaborate on providing sustainable solutions for our most pressing environmental and social problems.  One article I found talks about Amanda Little, a professor of journalism and science writing. She presents a Ted talk on the fragility of the global food system.  Little argues that the food system is not designed to adapt to a pandemic, like COVID-19. She explains that knowledge about traditional farming methods and permaculture is what we need. Alongside new technologies such as CRISPR and vertical farming.

As much as we need new thinking on global food system issues, we also need new doing. Around the world, people and organizations have developed innovative, on-the-ground solutions to the most pressing issues in food and agriculture.  Food Tank highlights hope and success in agriculture. The website features innovative ideas that are already working on the ground, in cities, in kitchens, in fields and in laboratories. These innovations need more attention, more research, and ultimately more funding to be replicated and scaled-up. We all need to work together to find solutions that nourish ourselves and protect the planet. Food Tank is a 501(c)3 non profit organization.
