Let’s grow together is an upcoming seasonal event organized to help and promote Denton Farmers Market. It starts on September 3rd and is a bit of a tradition for this large and popular local farmers market. It comprises of 3 different events all made to fund and collect donations for helping the market.

It’s also a way to promote and help others connected to the market which includes local farmers, food growers, artisans, and local businesses in general. This is done through entrance fees and charitable donations.

The Importance of Farmers Markets

Farmers markets pay a big role in the life of the local community, especially in the lives of local farmers, but it goes far broader than that. For average families the importance comes from the fact that the market is the place to buy fresh produce and to be sure that it’s grown in a healthy and sustainable way.

For farmers themselves the farmers market is a place to mingle and find your customers, clients and business partners. It’s also an institution that showcases your work and guarantees that it has certain qualities, which means a lot for new businesses.

Pawsitive Vibes

Denton community market is organizing 3 events to raise funds for its work. The first of these is a concert called Pawsitive vibes held on September 1st. It’s an annual event featuring local musicians and numerous pet friendly and pet oriented activities, from which it gets its name.

These include: pet costume contests, pet food vendors and pet friendly concert starting at 4 PM. The funds are raised via an admission ticket. The price of which is set at $5 and it covers the entry to all the events mentioned above. Obviously, you can bring your pets along.

North Texas Giving Day

North Texas Giving Day is another annual event made to help fund local institution, but it’s broader than farmer markets. However, Denton Farmers Market takes part in it and its one of the organizations that could be funded this way. It’s set up in a way which allows donations to be tax deductible. The event starts on 19th of September.

As is the case with all other organizations that take part in the event Denton market has a page on the North Texas Giving day website. There, they explain what kind of work they do, why it should be helped and how the donations will be used.

Farm to Table Cocktail Party

The last part of the Let’s grow together even is the so called Farm to Table Cocktail Party. It works like any other cocktail fundraising party. The profits made from selling food and drinks and from the donations go towards funding the farmers market.

The dishes will be prepared by the local chef Steve Meilinger at Embassy Suites in an appetizer buffet. Market drink features Soco Ginger Beer and spirits. There will also be live entertainment including an Elvis impersonator.

Tax Issues

For those concerned about the tax issues related to these donations – there’s no need to be worried since the Market has taken care of those. The market is set up as 501c3 nonprofit organization and its stated goals are crated in regards to that, being oriented towards community work instead of making a profit.

501c3 organizations are the ones that are exempt from the federal tax in the US. Those who make a contribution to these organizations will get a tax deduction in the amount they’ve donated. It’s deducted from their annual income tax, but there’s a limit as to how much you can give annually.

Other Ways to Help

There are other ways to help other than going to the events and giving money. These could sometimes be just as helpful as giving money and you shouldn’t look down on them. The most common of these is to raise awareness about the event and its importance and this is made easy by social media.

Secondly, if you don’t plan to donate to the market directly, you should use its services. This means you’re not giving money but purchasing goods and produce and that’s often more important, since it shows that the market has a reason to exist.

Conclusion

Let’s grow together is a series of fundraising events for local Texas nonprofits. These include Farmers Markets and they are trying to use the event to raise funds for their own infrastructure and to raise awareness about the importance of the farmers market.

These donations are tax deductible and they go directly towards helping the farmers markets. There are 3 events in this regards that are there to help Denton farmers markets. One is a pet event, with an admission fee, the other is a cocktail party, and the last one is a straight up donation pledge.
