Move Aside Russian Vodka, These 6 Texan Vodkas Are Fire

Discover > Best Of Texas > Move Aside Russian Vodka, These 6 Texan Vodkas Are Fire

My love for vodka started way back in 2010 when I was nothing but a cantankerous twenty-something with a budding taste for fine alcohol. I started by trying Vodka at one of our get-togethers with friends. I and my then-girlfriend (now-wife) were exploring vodka as a possible staple to our Friday nights out. This is because we thought it went quite well with a wide variety of cocktails.

Fast-forward to the present day, I have grown to love Lonestar vodka even more because of the different Texas vodka brands that have been opening up in the Lone Star State. But out of all the vodka distilleries in Texas, I have narrowed down six Texan-made vodkas. These vodkas, for me, hit close to home because of the locally sourced ingredients used and the good quality overall.

Here are the 6 Texan Vodkas you should check out.

Western Son Vodka

Based in Pilot Point, Texas, Western Son Vodka is one of my top picks for the smoothest Texan Vodkas. The corn (how long does corn last?) they use is a mix of Midwest and Texas corn that is naturally gluten-free. I found that this vodka made a damn good White Russian because it adds a certain burst of flavor. And if you drink it neat it’s one of the best sipping vodka, with a subtle but long-lasting burn that is perfect for cold Texan nights out with friends. They also offer their Vodkas in a variety of fruity flavors.

Avonak Vodka

Founded in 2016, the inspired Kyle Wray and his wife established Avonak Vodka out of their passion for distilling the finest spirits using locally sourced ingredients. Their Houston crafted product is one of the best Texas vodkas and it is the first grain-to-glass organic distillery in Houston, Texas. The owners have traveled around the world to learn from age-old distilling processes and used this knowledge to come up with the cleanest vodkas I have ever tried.

Blk Eye Vodka

If you’re up for a unique take on vodka then Blk Eye Vodka by the Blk Eye Distilling Co. is definitely for you. This particular spirit is made from non-GMO black-eyed peas (how long do black-eyed peas last?) and corn. This mix of ingredients is distilled to a functional equivalent of 22 times to ensure a smooth flavor with every glass sip. Charcoal filtration removes the vodka ‘burn’ that makes for good mixing and allows the ingredients of every cocktail to shine. Sipping on your first shot of Blk Eye Vodka, you’ll notice that there is no Vodka burn and it has a clean and subtle taste. This makes this vodka perfect for mixing drinks or just for straight up sipping and places it among the best Texas vodka.

Fire Texan Vodka without the burn? Blk Eye Vodka is definitely worth the sip!

'Tis the Season for Holiday Cocktails with a Texas Flair

Enchanted Rock Texas Vodka

Enchanted Rock Vodka by Rebecca Creek Distillery is a vodka with a sophisticated taste and a guilt-free experience to boot. This vodka is produced in small hand-crafted batches and uses mid-western corn that gives this spirit a sweet taste. This is because of the German copper distillation system that the distillery used to make a premium-tasting vodka. The filtration process that they use is also pretty rare when it comes to industry standards since they use chilled filtration which retains the enchanting flavors and aromas of this vodka. Enchanted Rock Vodka is also free from additives, carbohydrates, and gluten.
