Casual fast-food joint Torchy’s Tacos is marking a major milestone in Austin this winter, having opened their 100th restaurant location in December, 2021. Their newest venue, situated along the bustling South Congress Avenue, is the 12th location to open in the Lone Star capital, and the 100th location across 11 U.S. states. Torchy’s shows no sign of slowing down in the years to come, with plans to expand into Arizona, Florida, and Ohio in the coming year.
Torchy’s legacy began 15 years ago, rising from humble beginnings as a food trailer known for its homemade tacos, unique flavors and top-of-the-line ingredients sourced from all around the globe. Founder and CEO Mike Rypka recently issued a statement to the press, marking the centennial opening with his gratitude for the past and his hopes for the future of Torchy’s.
“I’ve been reflecting back on when we first started Torchy’s in 2006, and it’s surreal that here we are, 15 years later, opening our 100th restaurant in Austin, right where it all began. While a lot has changed in terms of our size and scale over the years, our attention to detail, down-to-earth culture and Damn Good food are all the same as when I was slinging tacos in the original food trailer on South First. On behalf of the entire Torchy’s family, thank you to our loyal fans who have supported us since day one, and all those who have grabbed a seat at our table since. Make sure you come out to celebrate our 100th restaurant with some tacos and margs!”
Torchy’s innovative menu offers something for every meal, from all-day breakfast tacos like The Wrangler, featuring cage-free eggs, smoked brisket, potato, cheese and tomatillo sauce, to savory sides such as Juan’s refried beans, street corn, and housemade guacamole. After a good meal, guests can unwind with freshly-squeezed, hand-shaken margaritas and locally-sourced brews at Torchy’s Happy Hour, which runs Monday through Friday from 3-6 pm. Happy Hour drink specials include $1.50 off draft and bottled beer, $2 off the shop’s signature “Damn Good Drinks”, plus $3.50 off select drinks such as sangria or mimosas all weekend long. The new Austin location is opening with the public’s safety at heart, including frequent cleaning and sanitation, wellness checks for all Torchy’s staff members, proper glove use and additional steps to ensure a safe and sanitary environment. Contactless pickup and delivery options are available via Torchy’s mobile app, currently available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
