Your Local Juice Bar With a Twist

The latest new trend in diet these days has got to be the ‘juice’. With such less time on our hands and so much to do, who has the time to have an elaborate breakfast every morning? Juices, shakes and smoothies work well for the busy life that we lead. They provide the nutrition, the freshness and the energy all in one chilled serving.

Juices and smoothies are the easiest way to get in more fruits and vegetables. According to the CDC, the average American doesn’t consume enough of either. That’s where it makes sense to introduce smoothies and shakes.

With the idea of ‘drinking’ your meals gaining popularity, Austin has no shortage of healthy, beautiful juice bars to grab a bite or a smoothie on the go.

Jugo Juice Bar

Jugo juice bar has one of the latest such offerings on Brazos St. This little shop is in downtown, making it so simple to fetch a quick drink on the way. The bar is designed by Michael Hsu , and is a bright and vibrant place. Modern art details are perfectly placed around, and the pink cords on the door handles are very chic!

Jugo Juice Bar

Jugo juice comes from the makers of Parkside Projects and the menu is designed by chef Shawn Cirkiel himself in collaboration with culinary director, Justin Rupp. It is one of a kind, farm to blender shake spots, whose USP is to provide fresh, locally sourced and ethically grown ingredients right from our local farmers to your table.

Several Austin farms are tied up with this establishment to provide the ingredients. They are very particular about what goes into their blenders and assure the freshest produce every day. Matter of fact, they compost the excess or waste produce rather than discarding it, hence helping the regenerative farmers gain important organic matter for their farms.

Jugo Juice Menu

On to my favorite part of this review, the MENU. Jugo has a juice selection menu that includes some irresistible combinations like carrot-ginger-orange-lemon-turmeric and cucumber-kale-parsley-celery-lemon. For the more ‘tangy tongued’ there is the pineapple-beet-jalapeno juice that sure packs a punch.

Jugo Juice Menu

The smoothie menu at jugo is even more mouthwatering. Take a look at the combos they have here:

What caught my eye at Jugo, was the list of add ins that can be added to your drink. They have the regular chia, flax seeds and nut butters, but they also have spirulina, matcha, acai, CBD oil! And collagen? I didn’t try any of these with my cocoa smoothie, because it honestly was so good on its own.

Other Offerings

Jugo also offers a range of wraps, salads and healthy meal bowls, because whoever grabbed a juice on its own? The baked Alaskan salmon is a meal in itself, and the beef bone broth is just what you need to order on a cold winter morning to have in bed. More fresh salad options are the Greek cucumber salad and the cobb salad with avocado dressing are really light and a great accompaniment with the juices. The raw carrot hummus is something unique and the sweet flavors of the carrot sing with every bite.

Jugo also offers customizable group orders for juices and smoothies to cater to office meetings, events etc. so you can get your colleagues to eat healthy and local too!

The recipes at Jugo are thoughtfully prepared using seasonal and local produce. The freshness comes through in every sip to refresh and re-energize your day. It’s places like Jugo that make the extra effort to do their bit for the environment and community.
