Texas Honey & Cocktails: A Match Made in Heaven

  • Explore the perfect pairing of Texas honey (how long does honey last?) with cocktails. Discover how this sweet addition enhances the flavor of your favorite drinks.

Now if you’re like me and a bit lazy to go out on a Friday night, there’s always that corner of the house that’s a great alternative to blowing off some steam - my Texas Bar Cart. For this week’s TexasRealFood concoction, I had to break open the old college cocktail recipe book and found the perfect drink to feature: The Texan Citrus Sunrise.

The Texan Citrus Sunrise was my hangover cure each time I woke up from a night of partying back in college. Nowadays, this cocktail is one of the go-to whenever I want that caffeine and booze buzz at the same time, and of course, my doctor always told me to have more liquids in my diet!

The Texan Citrus Sunrise Instructions

  1. Get your brown sugar and pour around 1 tablespoon of it on a small plate, spread it flat then rim your lowball glass with it.

  2. Fill the glass with two medium-sized cubes or balls [if you have one of those fancy clear ice makers then good for you].

  3. Mix in your lowball glass 2 ounces of Garrison Brothers HoneyDew Whiskey, 1 shot of espresso, and 1 slice of sun-dried lemon. Stir with a spoon until everything is mixed together.

  4. Add an ounce of sparkling water and mix it in the glass then top with orange zest. Sit back and enjoy your Texan Citrus Sunrise.

How to Make the Texas Buck

This cocktail mixes espresso, orange zest, sparkling water, brown sugar, and Garrison Brother’s HoneyDew Bourbon infused with Texas Wildflower Honey. The blend of dark roasted flavors from the espresso and brown sugar complements well with the light and floral notes of the bourbon and is spiked with subtle hints of citrus that transitions well from the nose to the palate.
